We put on a summer school over the Invasion Day (Australia Day) long weekend. During the school there are classes for everybody from beginner to fluent speaker. There’s fun as well like trivia night, the concert, sessions and other activities, including elective classes where you can learn about a range of other subjects through Irish. History
For a long time, it was called Daonscoil and it was run out in the country, but after a couple of years without a school, it was re-established in the city of Melbourne and renamed Gaeltacht Melbourne. Like many other events, COVID-19 put an end to it and we haven’t managed to put on a school since 2020, but in 2027 the school will be back under the simpler name: Scoil Samhraidh Melbourne (Melbourne Summer School).
